Don't blow off any needed appendages as you celebrate old timers.

One of my neighbors found a carbide cannon he's been firing off since noon.

If I were younger I'd fix up a oxy/acetylene balloon and show him how to really make some noise.

I went out for fireworks last night at a local city park. It was wonderful. Think I'll stay in and watch the National Fireworks on PBS.

A couple of days ago the fools around here went nuts. I wasn't around for the British attack on Ft. McHenry in the Revolutionary war but it couldn't have been much worse than this. The city's police force basically did nothing to curb the mayhem. Emboldened by what was allowed this year I shudder to think what next year will be like. I may plan to be elsewhere next July fourth.

My enjoyment was somewhat tempered by recent awareness of the restricted exclusive context of the original events in the context of Juneteenth and the 1619 project. Also the indigenous populations.

The Fourth of July ought to be celebrated in the context of what it is. It marks our independence as a country from British rule and the beginning of our journey to greatness. The greatness that will only be achieved when it is a greatness for all. Ironic how some people want certain things to disappear from history but then cling dearly to certain other things.

The sad part of this 4th of July is the absence of American flags in front of homes in our town/community which is quite liberal because these days, only Trumpers fly the flag.

Whereabouts is this? Here in Virginia, it was stupid. That's why I went out on the 3rd but stayed in on the 4th. In my 'hood, I heard the distinct sound of gunfire mixed in with fireworks. One year I woke up the next morning and found spent bullets on my front patio and driveway. Idiots don't care that what goes up, must come down.

This was in the Baltimore metropolitan area. I swear it sounded like an artillery barrage at times. I know fireworks are supposed to be paying homage to "the rockets red glare, bombs bursting in air" but this was ridiculous. They carried on for over an hour. I wouldn't be surprised if the "noise merchants" start hawking fireworks ahead of New Year's day.
