It's a little late Deborah.
Doctor Birx, who stood there in one press conference after another, listening to the lies spewed by Trump, has finally come out and said that the first 100,000 deaths were going to happen, but everything after that could have been avoided.
Olivia Troye Says There Should Be A Full Investigation Into Trump Admin. Covid Response
The only thing on Trump's mind was how this pandemic was a threat to his re-election and he didn't think twice about spewing lies and disinformation that he hoped would turn the political tide in his favor...at a cost of, by Birx's estimate, over 400,000 lives that could have been saved.
Thank-you Olivia Troy for making it all clear, once and for all. And any investigation should be a criminal investigation.

Indeed. Though this can be be rightfully viewed as legacy-scrubbing by Birx, it is also interesting to note that Trump wants to claim full responsibility for vaccine development while at the same time not taking the vaccine publicly (he did in a secret and never spoke of it until it was revealed by the press), nor advocating for his followers to get the vaccine.

finnbow, If Trump encouraged his followers to get the vaccine, it would be admitting that the virus really was life threatening after he spent all that time telling them it was no big deal and they didn't have to wear masks and that it would magically disappear.

Trump and his cult followers are riddled with inconsistencies of their beliefs and actions.
Except for one glaring back, that they have the answer or solution to all the problems. Just give them total power is all that is required.
As to Doctor Birx I'm inclined to give her some leeway on the job she did while in charge. She I figure was attempting to continue to work and do as good of a job possible without being fired. Knowing any replacement would be a stooge planted and way worse in the end.

It's a bit of a self-serving decision, the conviction that one must put one's head down and soldier on, (and keep taking a large salary), and you'll being doing good compared to your probable replacement. Based on the death toll, just how much good was that? Was it more good than her speaking out much earlier might have done? It's hard to know, but I'm sure the financial factor (and identity/status factor) are fairly certain to have had a good bit of influence.

Plenty of others who spoke out and were sacked. Did little in any way of curtailing the former administration.

It's anything but cut-and-dried either way. But there are reports that "White House staffers" convinced Trump not to pull crazier stunts than he did, in the final days. So there's that.

What could be crazier than committing election fraud in Georgia, propagating the Big Lie and fomenting an armed insurrection against our government?

For one thing, firing AG Rosen in favor of the rogue guy who was willing to go after the officials in Georgia on Trump's behalf. https://www.forbes.com/sites/rachels...h=240116a960a5
A blow-by-blow account I saw of events in the WH this day said staff played a key role in convincing Trump that trying this would engender to much opposition.

I've trained myself not to ask questions like that about people like him.
