We will never launch a similar inquiry. It goes against how we view ourselves and our armed services as heroes, saviors and defenders of the modern world. We simply won't do anything to make it look like our soldiers died in vain or that our efforts in Iraq were counterproductive in the long run. Ignorance is bliss.

This is exactly why Vietnam remains an emotional issue. Really, I wish this was something we could get past. But, so long as we have an MIC that successfully paints every objective look at military action as an unpatriotic act and/or an attack on the common soldier himself, nothing will change.

You CAN respect the troops and veterans, but be critical of the political powers who send them to war. In fact, they're lives depend on an objective and critical public.
