Dude, over the nine years that I have been posting on various internet political forums I have been to band camp so many times that I've lost count.

I suppose that don stumbled into the generalization trap. That happened once to me in this forum as well but now I'm trying to avoid it.

Being pretty much apolitical blues here, I'm fairly certain my first political forum will be my last. It's calmed down a lot around here since I unknowingly dove headfirst into the maelstrom PC was at that moment.

Come on folks - American Conservatives - okay, there are incredible sick creatures amongst them for sure.
One of my best friends at AK is a very conservative American. He hates Obama fanatically. He is a practising Catholic. Hey, that is hard stuff for me. Anyway - he really likes me so he is not very xenophobic, which is untypical for a conservative American. His knowledge about turntables is huge, his knowledge about Jazz and Soul is impressive. He sent countless private pictures of his garden, family etc. and so he shares with me daily American way of life. In the last years he sent about 200 private messages to me, and I sent about the same number back. We even sent nonvirtual gifts to each other via airmail.
The majoriy of American Conservatives may be unbearable, but I think there are quite a lot of people amongst them like my AK friend anyway.

Fine, you and Rob both don't like what I have to say sometimes, and make unflattering characterizations in response. Was there anything further you want me to know?
(I thought that was a really neat pic of the leaping lemur, taken as a thing in itself. I used it a bit sarcastically, but i hope you dug the beauty of it nonetheless.)

Amend my observation to 'many conservatives often think killing people is a great solution to anything.' Yes, my 'conservative death wish' is a generalization, but it's not based on my imagination. Wassillaguy's comment is only the latest in many many examples seen online. The attitude often comes out in discussions of the death penalty; many conservatives rather frankly lust for the deaths of certain wrongdoers, and think there is something wrong with anyone who doesn't. And I do think that setting-up a death-trap and baiting violent Muslims into it is this very attitude, taken past talk and into action.
As a generalization, it's a thing that seems typical, but I don't mean to suggest universal--or that non-conservatives are in all cases immune or anything. But you yourself say that your non-xenophobic conservative friend is 'untypical.'

Bravo, well said.
BTW, I experienced half of Haydn's String Quartets Opus 20 for the first time tonight and am looking forward to hearing the other tomorrow. I want to say I was in a state of blissful contentment at the end, but this is inadequate.
