The basic problem is the instant gratification attitude of most Americans. We want it now dammit, why hasen't he created jobs, why isn't this done, yada yada. He inherited an economy that was circling the bowl, two needless wars, an opposition that is only concentrating on pulling him down, to hell with what the country wants, a bunch of tea party yahoos as phony as the first lot, but I didn't get my lollipop, so boo.

I'll field this one- I have some limited understanding of how this works...
This was a special election that, up until just a week before the vote, no one expected to be of any particular interest. Indeed, the outcome was assumed by a lot of people, which is what makes it such a dramatic moment in American Politics.
Exit polling costs a fair bit of money and takes some significant planning and time to execute. You can't just wake up a week before the election and say "Call the exit polling people, we need to figure this one out". Exit polls are typciall paid for by media outlets and are often paid for as part of a short term election coverage agreement. No such agreements were stuck for this election for the reasons above.
It's too bad because it would be very interesting to have some handle on what they were thinking. But there's no conspiracy here.
*I should note, I am only vaguely familiar with how the whole process works. I could be off base a little, but generally speaking, I think this is the explanation.

As far as the Dems and "mainstream" media are concerned, if Brown won, it was a victory for the dems, if whats-her name won, it was a victory for the dems. What I can't understand is Nancy Pelosi's ability to understand that health care is dead. Her bubble must have a leak or something. I get the strange feeling too, that Harry knows his career is over. I wonder if Obama secretly knows that we're gonna send his ass packing too.

I haven't seen a lot of news stories making this out to be a "win" for the Democrats. Only person I've seen suggest that at all was the Republican strategist on CNN election night- said it would help Obama by forcing him to the center. Other than that I've seen a ton of coverage about it benig a devistating blow. One article even called it a death blow or something to that effect. Let me see if I can't find that one...
Ah, "Kiss of death" he called it.

Eddie, you should know that those pesky little facts should never get in the way of a good right wing rant!

I did, and voted for him in '92. Why you ask. Because I was pissed off. I'm even more pissed off today.

I'm thinking we should model it after California. You folks are doing a fine job out there on all counts, Pedro.
