To be honest, I'm not sure how much actual classic bipartisanship Obama really tried. Not your..."I'm coming across the aisle to reason together to find what's best for the American people"...sort of bipartisanship, anyway. He's a politician schooled in the "scratch my back, I'll scratch yours..." backroom dealing and negotiating that he learned from his Illinois Senate mentor Emil Jones (one of the great political hacks in the history of Illinois politics), and his pal Rahm Emanuel, among others. He tried it with House Republicans, who said "OK...yeah sure" and then voted against everything he proposed.

So it took a while, but Obama finally realized that the halls of Congress isn't the Palmer House and that wasn't going to work for him in DC. And he's gone in a more confrontational direction...which he should have right out of the gate.

Maybe because the GOP would see us as a colonial power?

Ah, I get it, now. It's another way of calling him a Marxist.

However, I would like to point out that being an "Anti-colonialist" does not necessarily make one a Marxist or even a mild leftist. Ron Paul has spoken out against our government engaging in empire building. Libertarianism contains an element of anti-imperialism.

Heck, if you think about it, this country was founded by men who opposed and successfully fought colonialism, gaining independence from a powerful empire.

If I were Obama, I would have stated my pride in being an anti-Colonialist and citied the above example. That would have been a nice middle finger in old Newties face.
