I don't know about Ohio but the only time I ever qualified for an absentee ballot I had to show that I would be out of the county.

In Kansas we have early voting. For about two weeks in advance of the election, IIRC, there are several large polling places set up where people can vote at their leisure. Insofar as out Governor and SOS are intent on voter suppression, I wouldn't be surprised to see them go after that practice as well.

We have the law here in Virginia, too. If you wish to vote, your employer must give you four hours to go vote and return to work. I've always worked nights, so it's never applied to me.

Our county is encouraging absentee voting and, I have heard informally, that the plan is to eventually shift to voting by mail for everyone.
It is very convenient.

In a perfect world yes, but with the chance of to many of the "wrong people" voting the ruling class will find a way to shut it down.

I've cast absentee ballots on a couple of occasions and have always had that lingering doubt that they ever were counted, actually.

There has been an informal guideline in counting absentee ballots that, if the race is not even close, and there aren't enough absentee ballots to make a difference in the outcome, then, those ballots are not counted....in some areas.
But, having worked on election night with those ballots that come in, including counting the absentee ballots, and being one of the people to sort and count, I can tell you that the voting booth is not the only place one has to worry about voter fraud. A common practice (at least in the district I worked in) was, when coming across paper ballots that had areas that were not marked, the hired help would fill in the missing areas voting for their preferences.
With the electronic voting, I'm sure that practice has discontinued, but, I'm not so sure electronic voting can't be manipulated internally either.......

I strongly dislike the e-voting machines.

Did you ever see fraud in counting? I had an old timer tell me once years ago that counters would glue needle ends under their nails, and dbl-punch opponents ballets to invalidate them when they could. Of course that's old Cleveland

Here is the latest twisted and tortured logic foisted on the electorate in Pennsylvania. Judge Simpson ignores evidence of zero voter fraud since 2000 and refuses to strike this law in search of a crime down. Now it goes to a crippled state supreme court where one justice is out of the picture under investigation. Can you spell Jim Crow? It appears that Jim Crow has moved to Pennsylvania. Ohio is following suit. A -O -Way to go, Ohio! Ohio is restricting early voting in Democratic counties.

Hmmmmm. I wonder how many veterans and their KIA brothers of the Grand Army of the Republic are spinning in their graves over this? These states were in the forefront during the civil war and now the Republican bosses are looking to disenfranchise a disproportionate number of blacks and other minorities. The party of Lincoln? Not anymore IMO.
I'll bet that Honest Abe himself is spinning the hardest over this bald faced election rigging aimed at Democrats.

Sigh, where's your outrage my Republican friends? Is this really the way you want to win the election? Are Democrats any less of a loyal American in your eyes? Will you sit on your hands while the big bosses deny the vote to hundreds of thousands of your fellow countrymen & women?

Sorry for the long rant but I don't see this as a partisan issue to be decided right before election day. Please write those bosses and at least try to get them to do the honorable thing. They just might listen to you.
