Well I don't want it taken that way I was being facetious.....everyone should vote and I am against voter suppression....I just think its strange how we split parties and do not understand that compromise is essiential and I hate the racial tinge of the most rabid tea party guys.....
My response to Finnbow's OP was subtle sarcasm but confused people....this is not a joking matter

The trouble is each state would have to pass their own laws. The Constitution leaves voting regulations largely to the states.

Or at least make voting day a national holiday and maybe have it on a Saturday.
That we could do. Should do.

Saturday? The number of voters would likely decrease because they are hungover or watching an inane sporting event. Those that want to vote are currently able to vote. The fact that a lot don't doesn't mean there is something structurally wrong with the current system.

BTW, did you hear much about that big concert in SF? I saw the SF Gate write up and it appeared to be quite good concert.

Probably so. I was thinking more along the lines of a Monday holiday.

I'm embarrassed to say I don't have the foggiest idea what you're talking about.

Oh, Outside Lands! I haven't heard any reports but the lineup was pretty damn good.

Depends upon their working hours and unlike the Canadian system employers are not compelled to give time off when the polls are open.

Actually, there is such a law in Missouri, and thanks for reminding me that I need to brush up on it. It is fairly technical in setting forth the circumstances under which it will apply.

In Kansas we have early voting. For about two weeks in advance of the election, IIRC, there are several large polling places set up where people can vote at their leisure. Insofar as out Governor and SOS are intent on voter suppression, I wouldn't be surprised to see them go after that practice as well.

Regards,

D-Ray

The study I cited earlier showed essentially zero incidence of voter impersonation (the supposed objective of the GOP push for voter ID), but problems with voter registration and manipulating absentee ballots. Yet, the GOP is silent in these areas. What gives (other than the obvious intent to disenfranchise Democratic voters)?

As I noted earlier that depends on your employment, in some elections I had to break a few speed laws to make it to the polls before closing.

Yeah I've pushed it too. But if you know you can't make it absentee ballots are a wonderful thing
