Nearly every gun was "legally owned" at some point, I'm sure. Unless the criminals are manufacturing their own. So, "total deaths by firearm" statistics are not irrelevant.

"Justifiable deaths" by private citizen or police is a relevant statistic to match against "unjustifiable homicide"....and the numbers aren't all that great.

Our total matched against other "developed" nations is less than mediocre. Apparently, WE are doing something wrong.
