Right now, I just have a run of the mill Sylvania short plate, square getter in the pre spot, but I have the Tung-Sol 5998 in the power section. That 5998 is the keeper! Out of the RCA 6080, the Mullard 6080, the GE 6AS7G and the Cetron 7236 nothing touches the big Tung-Sol 5998. That is one sweet sounding tube. The best $40 I ever spent. The accordian on "Boat on the River" just comes alive.
I'm also glad I did the maintenance on the Pro-ject 'table as well. Hard to believe just cleaning and lubing the bearings and refilling the "anti-resonance cup" with fresh silicon goo makes that much of a difference, but it does. Much more smooth and quiet.
