Sure it is, now, but what about in ten billion years?

With the advent of global warming, the earth will probably spin faster due to the increased energy it receives. Or earth is the perpetual motion machine that Newton envisioned.

An increase in rotational momentum would result in an increase in gravity. I'm having enough trouble getting around already.

Good question. I'm not familiar with Newton's theory on this, but barring solar energy involvement, I'd think with the dynamics of weather, ocean currents, and polar magnetics re core motion, the rotation gradually slows.

The earth spins due to inertia, it was born spinning from a disk of spinning gas and dust. Gravational sources, notably the sun and moon, affect the spinning, but I don't think temperature or radiation input do so.

And since it is spinning in empty space there is nowt to slow it down, the atmosphere sins with it.

Actually, nailer's first source states that changes in atmospheric movement and density can have a tiny effect on the Earth's rotation, due to conservation of angular momentum. Might amount to the day shortening by a minute in a billion years. I suspect the effect of the Sun's gravity is greater.
