Haven't heard Diane Birch. Does she do Americana too? Along those lines, we are going to see Brandi Carlisle next month.

I really like her music. There are a few artists that hit you emotionally and for me she's one of them. Eva Cassidy also has that capability along with Gillian Welch's Time (The Revelator).
Here's a clip from an article on her:

Quote:
t's the first track on Birch's new album, Bible Belt. The next song, "Valentino," is dedicated to her imaginary friend from her teenage years.

"I was kind of obsessed with the 18th century, and I felt very misunderstood, and like I had been placed in the wrong time period," she says. "Valentino was a sort of character I created as a sort of muse. In a way, the song is like a little ode to my innocence — it's like a farewell song to that sort of childish imagination. He looked very much like Mozart."

The singer, songwriter and pianist had an eclectic musical upbringing. Her music is filled with the language and sounds of gospel and church music — her father was a preacher. She also lived in Zimbabwe and Australia, where her parents constantly played classical records, as a child.

"I'd wake up to [soprano] Joan Sutherland screaming in my ear," Birch says. "It's an amazing alarm clock — that's the best kind of scream."

True False Identity is a terrific album - amazing production values, great song-writing: "When you come out of this self-delusion, you're going to need a soul transfusion." Mayer can play a little guitar too.

Had to go out to the garage-opolis and buff out some scratches on the CD first. White buffing compound on a clean linen wheel will clean up any scratches and bring an abused CD back to life.

As much as I love most everything he has produced, I may even prefer his own albums. His self-titled album (3rd, I think) is absolutely fantastic in a minimalist sort of way. Truly great stuff. I also really dig Truth Decay and Criminal Under My Own Hat.

I use Fitz's polish and a soft cloth. Sounds like a wheel might be more efficient. But I've also heard that toothpaste works.

I tried it out again because I'm tired of all my discs.
Time to go spend a C-Note on some music. Amazon...here I come.

What - no thrift stores in 'zona? I hit the thrifts every once in awhile, and usually find something worth picking up. About one or two bucks a pop for CDs. At that price, its worth trying out some new stuff. That's how I found out about Cracker and several others. Today I picked up some Art Blakey and a 4 CD set of the Carter Family (my wife will be thrilled). Thanks in large part to the thrifts, my CD collection has quadrupled in the last few years.

Regards,

D-Ray

Not unless you like Lawrence Welk.
