Nope. I have no sympathy. Any rioting is totally avoidable and they should know better than to be doing what they are doing.

Always liked Shepards. They always exhibited more personality than than the rest of the mean dogs.

Shepherd won't work here, Florence was savaged by a pair of them as a teenager, needed plastic surgery to repair the damage.
The WaPo has an article regarding the rise in homicides since those stupid stand your ground laws were put in place. Especially as the only other witness is dead. It seems some woman from the NRA has been pushing these laws all around the country.

People such as myself DO see this as a race baiting issue. The point I was trying to make was the point that you were correct.
Now there is a certain debate that Zimmerman was advised that he didn't need to follow the suspect, and he responded "OK". And he was in the process of leaving whenever he was assaulted.
I wasn't there, and I don't know.
I'm reaching for common ground. Since none of us were there, and none of us know what actually happened, is it necessary to besmirch Zimmermans character?
Hell, if he actually shot some kid for having a bag of Skittles, I'd be the first to hang him by the balls from a sour apple tree.
But as you pointed out, folks such as myself smell a big political rat.
And, IMHO, we have every right to be suspicious, as this isn't the first time down the Prim Rose Path for us.
I'm just trying to be honest. And to be honest, if someone was about to kill you, wouldn't you use any means at hand to prevent it?
And once again, I see this issue as a regional shooting being thrust on the national stage as politics.
And I don't see this as a knee jerk response on my part. I just want to see the chips fall as they may.
And be assured, I'm the last one to defend a cold blooded killer.

Excellent post Chas. And I am in total agreement. All the facts are still not divulged. Have a blessed day everyone!

Problem is, as Rob has pointed out, this idotic law is in some cases, preventing the chips from faling where they may.
Of course I believe people should be able to protect themselves. It goes too far, IMHO. Is there even going to be a trial? That's the question.
That's not a topic for "mindless conversation", it's a very legitimate one.
That is why, at some point back there, I threw in "...aside from this case....".
It's not difficult to imagine certain personality types abusing this law, is it? We've all met them, to be sure.
Perhaps another thread? Naw. It would just go right back to this case anyways....

I believe this is the chart.

I'm not too sure what to make of it, as it appears justifiable homicides are up in some states without SYG laws and have fallen in some states with SYG.

Not sure what to make of it either. It's kind of a lame chart. Does it mean there have been more JHs if the bar is above the line, or less, and is that necessarily a good thing? It could just be that some of those states have had more or less homicides in general?
I know it's kind of off topic, but I do find this map rather interesting;

More data on justifiable homicides from the FBI.
http://www2.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2009/off...rtable_15.html
If I'm reading this correctly, there were 261 deaths in 2009, which is the last year that data is available for, once again if I'm correct.
Out of 300,000,000+ people I'm surprised there are so few.

For being armed to the teeth, we're not exactly stacking them up like cord wood, are we?
I thought Mexico would be a lot higher.

261 justifiable homicides.......Not the total number of homicides.
http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/homicide.htm
16,799...........5.5 out of 100k......261 were justifiable?
(Germany, for instance had 0.8 per 100k.)
That's pretty bad, IMO.

11,493 homicides by firearm. Kinda makes the, "Well if you throw it hard enough, you could murder someone with a sponge!" argument look a little silly.
