Regardless what the 911 dispatcher told him, he has as much right to walk through the neighborhood as the kid did. There are no laws against following someone around either.
Whoever started the physical altercation is to blame, and we don't know that for sure yet.

stalking - present participle of stalk (Verb)
Verb:

Pursue or approach stealthily: "a cat stalking a bird".
Harass or persecute (someone) with unwanted and obsessive attention: "the fan stalked the actor".

There are laws against stalking.

In addition, neighborhood watch groups advise their people not to carry guns and not to confront a suspect.
Zimmerman wants us to believe he was acting on behalf of the neighborhood watch group and yet, he was in violation of their rules.

Zimmerman was acting on behalf of his own Harry Callahan fantasies and little else.

Once again there was no real reason for Obama to weigh in on the situation. He likely inflamed the situation by his "look like my son" comment. He could have simply asked for calm and noted the tragedy of the situation, rather than polarize the situation. Sometimes I wonder how he makes such obvious errors.

Thanks for straightening me out D-Ray. I should have said it's not legally justifiable to attack someone just because they are stalking you. This is of course assuming that Zimmerman was stalking, and that Trayvon jumped him.

Wouldn't stalking require repetitive behavior over time, that is, more than a single occurrence? Currently, we lack the information necessary to make a firm conclusion regarding this case. Similarly, so does the media that drove this story. What we are sure about is that the picture of Trayvon is not current and that he was not quite the innocent little boy as was portrayed by the media. Also, I have not heard anyone that knows Zimmerman claim he was a racist. Does anyone know how this story initially garnered widespread attention so long after the event?

Although the whole incident is sad. Too bad the kid was violent.

If this is all appearance driven (and it sure looks to be that way) the parents taking out trademarks on slogans sure look bad. I do understand there are good reasons to do so, however I'm also not standing on a corner with a pitchfork and a noose.

Btw, there are big differences between neighborhoods that need bars on windows and those that don't. My experience has shown me that it's neighborhood involvement, and what the residents tolerate.

But he wasn't doing his job, Pete. He was playing Paul Kersey. He was affiliated with no one. He was hired by no one. He called it in to 911 and then decided to play vigilante. An innocent, 17 year old boy is dead because of this man.

This fellow discharged a firearm that resulted in the death of an unarmed 17 year old on a candy run. Don't you see anything wrong with that picture?
