And he mentioned his moral beliefs, but did not insist that others be pressured into into conformity with them.

I also don't know the origin of the bumper sticker and photo and I would venture to guess that you don't either.
It's funny how the actions of a handful of morons in a population of well over 300 million, and/or believe it or not, the actions of those who you would never believe in a million years to be involved, can influence or solidify opinion.
These are interesting times we live in.

Fair enough, and very true.

Well Inquiring Minds Wanted to know, So Here It IS.
Image by John Hairston, Jr., via Facebook
Amid speculation that the image had actually been photoshopped by liberals looking to cry "racism!", the folks at Snopes did some good, old-fashioned internet snooping, and found several sites where the bumper sticker and other items featuring the slogan are being sold. (Hat tip to Geoff Harper -- an outstanding jazz musician, by the way -- for the Snopes link.) One of those sites, www.dontre-nig.com, has apparently exceeded its bandwidth limit, but I was able to grab a screen shot from another site found by Snopes where the bumper sticker is being sold. The promotional copy reads:
Show the world how you fee! (but be careful, you may hurt someone's feelings)

I'm glad I can't access that website, that's a positive sign.
How far could we possibly go to censor racist and hateful sentiments without infringing on the first amendment and is a country like Germany worse off for having censored Nazi-ism? Slavery was pretty bad. Even though the constitution does I can't defend somebodies right to hate.

And just how is it to be determined what is purportedly racist and hateful? You can't censor such speech and written statements without hindering free speech and the expression of ideas. Ideas that might be bothersome, but nevertheless have a right to be expressed.
"If there be time to expose through discussion the falsehood and fallacies, to avert the evil by the process of education, the remedy to be applied is more speech, not enforced silence."
"No danger flowing from speech can be deemed clear and present unless the incidence of the evil apprehended is so imminent that it may befall before there is an opportunity for full discussion. Only an emergency can justify repression."
Justice Louis D. Brandeis

"And just how is it to be determined what is purportedly racist and hateful?"
We have Judge Brandeis stroll down Airline Boulevard in Portsmouth Virginia, shouting whatever potentially racist epithet he thinks is protected by free speech-----If he makes it out alive, it wasn't racist.
I think, by now, we can all be reasonably sure we know what type of words and comments are inflammatory and serve no real useful purpose. Or, is this another social lesson Republicans must go through twice before they learn to just shut up and leave it alone?
