I believe I started a thread a few years back expounding on my distaste for polls. I still hate them.
Have you ever noticed that no one you know is even discussing a topic until after a poll is released telling them what their opinion is?
"This here poll says 91% of Americans think it's okay to put out a hair fire with gasoline. Well, if THAT many Americans believe it, it must be true....I'll have to remember that, just in case ma hair lights up.........."

It is a crafty art, tell me what results you want and I will write the questions to guarantee those results.

True, but it is also in the interest of the pollster to be as accurate as possible. One can check accuracy, at least in some polls, by checking the correlation between the poll and the actual result of the event presumed to be measured by the poll. AFAIK, the poll questions and methodology are available for perusal. There is enough randomness between pollsters to account for different results without the attribution of misleading intent.

The question is do the poll results affect the eventual outcome?
