Some people wear their religion on their sleeve, and others wear their lack of religion on their sleeve.
I think it's the "on the sleeve" part that bugs me.

Not derisive, merely descrriptive.

Oh yeah. I forget. They had one like that and we removed him.

That's the best summation I've heard in years.

My thoughts also....
I said all along we the U.S. should of just found a General there to play ball with and install him. Seems to have worked out well for the U.S. in the past!

The left points to our support in years gone by of strongmen as reason the locals hate us, but in Iraq, it's a good thing?

Only if you want the Sunnis and Shia to get along, some of us really do not care if they kill each other off. Take a good look at Moqtada al Sadr or al Maliki - would you buy a used car from either one?

What is good for the U.S of A. is not always what is good for the foreign country involved.
To truly get what we want from another country, most of if not all of the time it will be against their own interests.

I'm having a difficult time remembering where we systematically killed people to an extent greater than what the locals did themselves. Compare the U.S. to historic world powers and the point is clear. Once you have that power, it becomes an obligation to foster peace. Of course, one may need some wars to ultimately achieve peace. Our biggest problem is that we tend to place a much higher value on an individual life than our enemies, thus, our wars have been fought, since WWII, in a manner inconsistent with the notion of full warfare.
