That year and style of Chevys were tough. Police and Cab Companies ran them for decades. Put huge mileage on them.

Thanks D, I appreciate it, but it's more like I have a sense of I'm a freaking idiot for even trying

I should've taken half the money I've put into it and added it to the price of the car, and bought a better one out of the gate. Live and learn? Probably not.

Glad the Chevys running well. Any good car is worth a grand in upkeep.

I missed a pretty big anniversary last week - Chevy's 100 birthday. I miss my old station wagons.

Dave, I came within a whisker of buying a 1986 Pontiac Pariesiene instead of this TC. It was clean, but pretty plain. The TC got the best of me

Do you have a picture? BTW, where can I find Clif components? My Expedition needs a new stereo.

Of the TC? With pleasure Or the Pontiac? Looked like the one attached for the most part.

It's got different rims now, 16" off a 96 TC Cartier. The difference in ride and handling between a 215/70/15 and 225/60/16 is immense! Bolt on, and same overall diameter so it doesn't even effect the speedo.

I don't see any 6-1/2 Clif components on ebay right now, just the 5 somethings (which do look a little cheaper), or the QX6550 non component 6" that look to be a match to the 6 x 9s below.

The 6 x 9s are QX6950. The guy selling both of them will indeed wheel and deal

Heck I put a pair of their cheaper grade 6 x 8s in the front of my 03 Grand Marquis, they are way way better than the 6 x 8 Infinity Kappas I put in the back. I was surprised.

The steering gearbox shaft seal is bad, I probably blew it when I missed the cap on teh return line, d'oh!

That seal is giving me nothing but grief.

A $9 part. Pop the pitman arm off, pull the snap ring, wala. Should be a 20 minute job (unless the pitman arm is really on there, which happens. But mine was changed last year).

I can't.... get.... the.... freakin.... snapring off. Broke 3 sets of cheap snapring pliers, a Craftman pick, it's loose but I can't get it to close in enough (internal snapring) to get a screwdriver or pick in behind it/ through the hole.

So she's been down since about the last post, over a $9 part.

I changed the oil on my 03, it was a nice reminder of the old days, when I didn't spend every spare minute under a car :sigh:

Sorry, I forgot to mention it.

Cleaned the contacts on the relays and so far so good! Popped the end off the box, the two circuit boards slide right out. The relays are exposed (I've never seen that before). I split a fingernail fileboard in half (so it was as thin as possible), cut it to 'fit', proof! $1200 part repaired

Or so I think, my luck on this thing! Thanks again for the help.

So you can fix a $1200 processor with an emery board, but a $9 part has broken three tools and disabled the car. Quite the yin and yang.

Regards,

Yep, amazing. I should've bought the 'good' snapring pliers from the Craftsman store for $30 but thought, heck, I'll probably never use them again, bought a cheapie pair from Advance, broke them. Went to Harbor freight, forgot the new snapring, bought these awesomely heavy duty ones that were way too big, wouldn't fit. Went back (30 mins each way), got a set of medium ones, bent them. Got a nice set of picks from Craftsman, broke'em.

The various pliers I broke/bent are warranteed, so I be able to replace them free. Yay, useless new tools I'll carry around for the rest of my life. The picks are waranteed too but they're good, I'll use them again at least.

But all told it would've been way cheaper in time and money just to bite the bullet and buy the good tool out the gate. There's a lesson in there that I will promptly forget
