Bashing Obama for not fulfilling all of his campaign promises is like bashing the clean-up hitter for not driving the winning runs. Yeah, it's his job to drive in runs, but there's a guy on the pitchers mound doing everything he can to prevent the slugger from getting good wood on the ball. Sometimes he strikes out, sometimes he has to settle for a walk, and sometimes he wins the game.

There have been a substantial number of Republicans who have openly campaigned for Obama's failure. They used every trick available to them to keep legislation from getting through. Obama also faced a considerable amount of NIMBY when he tried to find alternative locations for GITMO. Don't you think it would be wasting time to propose the Employee Free Choice act when so many new members of the house are there courtesy of the Koch brothers, et al.? Ya can't snap your fingers and fulfill campaign promises.

Don't underestimate the damage to Obama that occurred because of the Pelosi-Reid leadership in Congress. Barack is one elected official and he's NOT in control of the legislative branch. Those 2 clowns did more to encourage opposition to the Prez than the lazy incompetents on the GOP side... Pelosi-Reid inspired the TeaParty movement much more than Obama did.

Excuses, excuses. I'm keeping all these 'reasons' on file for the defense of the next Rep Pres.

Seriously, I'm hearing that during the campaign one can say anything, anything at all and it's fair game? Or that Obama, after being in the Senate, was naive at best? Watch the percentages of kids voting to see the result.

You might just get lucky though, kids aren't neccessarily known for street smarts

Don't you agree that there was plenty of opposition to the things that he proposed. He has to govern while the GOP can play a political game of chicken. Do you think that if he had a filibuster proof senate he would have watered down the health care bill, or permitted the Bush tax cuts to remain in effect for the wealthiest Americans. The Employee Free Choice Act passed the House. I want much more from Obama and from government, but I realize how hard it is to battle entrenched interests.

As far as street smarts, don't you think kids who are a bit savvy will understand the politics of the possible?

BTW, Pete. As far as full disclosure, why don't you identify all of the things off of his list of "failures" that you would actually want to happen.

It's a 'free' government, the government of the US. He didn't know about opposition?

Billy Tubbs had a great line when he was hired by OU. The team had lost a lot of starters to graduation, and a reporter suggested that 7-7 would be a good conference record (BITD when OU was in the Big 8). He replied that he expected to go 14-0. "If I told them I wanted them to go 7 and 7, they would have a hard time deciding which 7 to win and which 7 to lose."

The goals which one has during a campaign are not all likely to be successful, or take the form intended. Do you think we should require pessimism in campaigning?
