Oppressing the wealthy? Sorry blue, I'm not rich enough to be a Democrat
I don't see why I have to pay for someone else to retire before 65.

On its face, you're right. But if you dig a bit deeper, you find that states negotiated with the unions to accept wages/salaries lower than the private sector in exchange for job security and pensions. That way, the officials responsible for the budget make a deal that takes less from today's budget and delays payment of the deferred payment items (i.e., pensions) for future administrations to deal with - passing the buck, as it were.
That said, I'm no fan of public sector unions (nor was FDR, the patron saint of the Democratic Party, BTW). But Wisconsin has had public sector bargaining for over 50 years, and you don't go about changing it the way that their Governor did without expecting some hell to pay.

Your side seems to oppose ANYONE (but themselves, of course.) retiring at all. From my point of view. If you have a pension, public, or otherwise, they fight to tear it down. If you make enough to save up for your own retirement, they fight to cut your pay. Even if your struggling to get by on minimum wage and little or no benefits they think your being "given" a "handout". How little is little enough, Pete?
It seems to me that the right-wing mindset is that anyone who attempts to stop working at any point for any reason is just a slacker. Deadweight trying to sneak into "the hammock". (Until it's their turn, of course. They always seem to think they've "earned" everything they have, even when they haven't done any more than anyone else.).....................
I think we should ALL be able to retire at 65, if we choose to do so. Before 65, if we can. I think that by the time the vast majority of us have reached 65, we have done our bit and deserve to enjoy life for a change, and that anyone who thinks otherwise is just a slave driving asshole.
But, that's just me. I'm crazy that way.
And, where did you get this notion that all Dems are rich? And, even if it was true, wouldn't that be "class envy"? I thought all Dems are "welfare collecting scumbags, looking for a handout" Wingnuts accuse them of being "useless, bums, morons, thieves, etc." then turn around and accuse them of being "well heeled intellectual elite".....Which is it??
Is it only "class envy" when Dems say that all Republicans are rich or vice versa? I don't think so. I think the whole notion of "class envy" is ridiculous. Which ever way it goes. I think everyone, rich or poor, are just doing what human beings do----Trying to get "more", or just plain "get by".
I just happen to think it's absurd when people start thinking the answer to every problem is to take from those of us at the bottom, regardless of how you vote, and give to the ones who already have way more than enough.
Watch. After the GOP succeeds in busting the public unions, YOUR taxes STILL won't go down. Bet on it. They don't give a rats ass about you, or me.
If anything ever leads to "Class Warfare" it will be this.
Dave

WIsconsin would have had a slight surplus but Hosni Walker decided that stimulus was a good idea so he offered tax breaks to any new business relocating to cheesland. Then the hypocrical bastard turned around and flat out lied claiming it was the pensions doing the deed.
BTW how many hear feel that working in a coal mine until 65, 67 or 69 sounds like a fun life - that is if black lung does not get you first.
Can goopers ever be truthful I wonder?

OK you got it. I want to retire. However, I need money to do so. PM me your address and I'll send you my paypal info.
If you don't, you're an evil republican. But wait! The dems have raised the retirement age too.

The Dems in Congress are much more wealthy than the GOP. They're just better at manipulating the poor.

There can't be any real tax cuts, we're too far down the hole already.

Actually, as Rob noted, it was the Governor cutting taxes that caused this budget crisis to begin with.

If favorable benefits made the government jobs attractive to the workers, even with less than competitive salaries, that is the deal that both parties accepted, and that the workers earned. It is a debt owed to them for their services. Are you now saying that workers should forgive the debt that is owed to them? It's up to this one group of people to bail out the government from it's financial shortfalls?
Regards,
D-Ray

No, though it happened to the steelworkers.
Needs done like the UAW did, everyone hired after a certain date gets the new package. That way fairness is preserved.
