The 2025 shutdown which seems highly probable and could be worse than the last, 35 days when the T was P in 2018, because of the demands the Dems are making and the GOP's entrenched position on ACA. They want to eliminate while the Dems want the Repubs to fund it which was already a casualty on the BBB which they passed unilaterally. Just cannot see where this is headed since the Dems are demanding for funding for something that the GOP has summarily eliminated. No wonder the negotiations have not moved nor was there any motivation for the GOP to negotiate this beforehand. Now free vacations for some Federal workers while several others (like subcontractors) will go jobless indefinitely.

The Dems better damn well get their message out ahead of letting the GOP lie machine get really cranking.

The Dem leadership is very inept. The GOP claim is that this CR is extending the funding for the current budget (aka BBB) that has been in place, so the Deems are blocking it, except BBB was passed without any Dem support. You think the voter base will understand this nuance? Think not so the blame game will go on.

The Dem leadership (barf) could begin to call this the Trump shutdown 2025 referencing the Trump Shutdown 2018 but no one in the media will report this truthfully.

So its a lose lose.

Nice bit of victim blaming, Raj. The Repukes own all three branches of the gubmint plus the Supreme Court and they own most of the media.

One side wants the other to accept without complaining. No working out differences or compromising.
Bulling threatening fear mongering intimidation ring any bells of alarm yet?

This lands squarely at the Republicans feet. What does need to be remembered is they have no feelings for people in need. So will care little of the suffering ahead due to their actions. Plus the MAGA brain will never blame anyone other than the Democrats.

Previous shutdowns have not threatened scheduled Social Security payments. The theory is the SS benefits are off-budget. If there was anything going on requiring human adjustment or authorization that might be a problem...

Correct, I checked into that a few days ago. Otherwise there'd be a humongus turnout of SS recipients in DC calling for scalps.

Game of chicken going on to see who will cave first.

With the elections coming up in VA and NJ very soon. Both sides should be worried about how this shutdown will influence the voters.

Letter from the VA this morning, blatantly blaming the Dems for the shutdown. This is illegal politicization, but the guard rails have been removed, so no one will stop them, until we can throw them out and Nuremberg their asses.

“ As you may be aware, funding for some government agencies, including portions of the Department of Veterans Affairs, expired at midnight this morning.

President Trump opposes a lapse in appropriations, and on September 19, the House of Representatives passed, with the Trump Administration’s support, a clean continuing resolution to fund the government through November 21. Unfortunately, Democrats are blocking this Continuing Resolution in the U.S. Senate due to unrelated policy demands.”
