The "richest" country in the world is also probably the only civilized country in the world that doesn´t have universal health care for its citizens. And any politician, or political party that tries to raise the US to ,say, European standards, will never be elected because that would mean raising taxes.

I pay 19% sales tax, and approximately 7.5% of my gross pay for Health insurance. That health insurance would even cover a family with 10 kids or more; all for the same price.

The rich in the US don´t want to give up 1 cent for the benefit of society; even the uneducated and poor would be against higher taxes, even if it benefited them greatly, because " but eggs are expensive!"

I don´t want to insult anyone personally that lives in the US, but the rest of the world stopped looking up to the US a LONG time ago. We PITY you; and I mean that seriously.


Americans complain about the price of gas, but adjusted for inflation, I think it is even cheaper that 30 years ago.

For a bit of context; I am a US citizen (I´m working on changing that), that came to Germany at 20 years of age 40 years ago.

A wealthy man was supposedly asked how much is enough, and responded "more!".

Contributing to this bleak outlook is the continuing dumbing down of the American education system. Very few go on to meaningful degree programs while our prestigious universities are busy educating international students. So with states cutting funding to universities, higher education has become even more expensive, so very few American HS students can afford to pursue four year degree programs, let alone advanced degrees in well paid professions. Banks are happy to loan money to students for higher education without any consideration as to the jobs they are qualifying for and if their future wages can support the loan repayment.

H1B's have filled the need somewhat, Bannon is railing against it, the Tech bros will fight to keep it. What we sorely need is apprentice training programs for HS students who directly want to join the workforce but here again, we have private DeVry Tech type establishments primarily out to fleece the students by burying them in debt rather than training them.

Nearly 16,000 federal student loan borrowers who were misled by for-profit colleges will have $415 million in debts erased, according to the U.S. Department of Education. These borrowers — who attended DeVry University, ITT Technical Institute and other schools — will receive relief through a legal provision known as borrower defense, which promises loan relief for defrauded borrowers.

I am not an expert on studying here in Germany, but I think it is basically free, or at very least quite affordable.

I have always thought that having well educated citizens is a huge benefit for a country; but apparently, those in power in the US see that differently.

And that is part of why America is doomed. The population is being dumbed down by the school system, social media, Hollywood and propaganda news.

I find the news over here much more neutral. Of course, public opinion can be shaped just by reporting on some stories, and not reporting on others. But as a whole, German news just reports the facts, and NEVER voice an opinion on a topic.

And the news people are not celebrities, nor are they chosen for their physical appearance. They are, to my knowledge, all studied journalists.
