Impact may be considerable. Of the 5.5 million, how many are stable long-term incumbents, and how many are part of the churn of arrivals, departures, and movement between positions? The 65,000 H1B visas may represent a signifcant percentage of the 'churn.' Keep in mind that the 65,000 is termed 'visas issued' in a year. That is less than 'total visas outstanding' is it not?

The bottom line here is not that I think Bannon is even half-right, but I'm not sure he's totally wrong. I can easily believe that some employers exploit H1B holders to gain talent at a sharp discount.

The US over the years failed to nurture its local STEM talent.
Instead of for instance giving a helping hand to Americans graduating from some of its State Colleges what happened instead was the best Universities sold a lot of seats to foreigners mainly from China and India. It is a lucrative hustle for the top universities since foreign students pay much more than locals.
China is now reducing the amount of student it sends abroad because of the increasing quality and quantity of its universities.
Musk and his cohort pushing to lay off civil servants and at the same time pushing to bring in more foreigners is very bad audio and bad optics given that Musk is in essence a foreigner and the other an Indian. (Indians benefit tremendously from the type of visas in play).

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Is not the USA the major destination for students in Engineering, Medical Fields, Sciences High Tech from across the planet?

Humm, we should have plenty of home grown talent here it would seem.

When I graduated in the 70's they were importing talent then. First job out of college seen it first hand with one Engineer. Modern day slavery were they. Paid less and treated badly. Does not seem to have changed other then the numbers.

So the Maggers are upset because Elon doesn't think Americans are smart enough. I wonder if someone should tell them about this? Maybe soomeone should tell him or is it the age old desire to hire lesser paid foreigners?

We did one H1B and I said never again. The catch is the H1B is awarded to the individual and not the company that sponsors him/her and once they get it, they leave. In fact large corporations would rather poach them than go through the trouble themselves.

But today Trump is aligning himself with President Musk and has said he backs H1B. The all too powerful tech industry will fight tooth and nail for the H1B program to sustain technical staffing.

Nothing new: the stagnation of wages and the creation of a docile work force. Musk is looking for docile workers. It is good that the Magas are pushing back. It looks like they have a movement which will survive after Trump.

It is obvious that Trump is selling them out even before he takes office.
