On Friday (Aug. 23), the late soul singer’s son Isaac Hayes III announced on social media that a federal judge had granted his father’s estate an emergency hearing in their lawsuit against the former president, who has been using “Hold On, I’m Coming” without authorization during multiple campaign rallies.

“The Federal Court has granted our request for an Emergency Hearing to secure injunctive relief,” Hayes III wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Donald Trump, the RNC, Trump, Trump for President Inc. 2024, Turning Point and The NRA are required to appear in court September 3rd, 2024 at the Northern U.S. District Federal Court in Atlanta. See you in court.”

As you're convalescing and if you have access to HBO (Max), I highly recommend the recently released Stax: Soulsville USA, a 4-part miniseries on the history of Stax records. Really great.

I didn't realize the role that Isaac Hayes played at Stax. He was much more than just a performer. He was also a big-time songwriter and producer and became a demigod in the black community.

Here is a glaring example of the hypocrisy perpetrated by the GOP MAGA party.

SAN ANTONIO — Leticia Sanchez was a church deaconess, teacher’s aide and an activist in her majority-Latino community helping register people to vote before she was arrested in 2018 for the first time in her life.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) accused her and three other Hispanic women of forming an “organized voter fraud ring” that targeted elderly voters by applying for mail-in ballots they had not requested.

Five years later, the case was dismissed after the state’s highest criminal court ruled Paxton didn’t have the authority to prosecute Sanchez. But even with her record cleared, the cost of being branded a felon was enormous.

“It’s been difficult to move forward,” Sanchez, 63, said in her first interview since the arrest. “We didn’t do anything wrong. We were just helping people.”

Yet the very same party has unanimously nominated a convicted Felon for President who not only tried to steal votes, but when he was spurned by members of his his own party, mounted an insurrection.

Granted Ken Paxton is an extreme case, but even so he represents the GOP ideology even escaping an impeachment with overwhelming evidence of corruption.
