True enough.

Youtube has many videos of cars from the Bad Old Days that were parked 30 years ago with <100,000 miles due to some catastrophic failure. But people are very nostalgic about them and restore them, probably to better than new condition.

All 3 of my post year 2000 cars have over 100k and run just fine.

Others trying to get a foothold in the US market went for reliability. The Japanese seem to maintained that fame for a long time...not so the Germans nor the Swedes.
We have a family heirloom, a Toyota Camry 2000 with 306k miles and it looks like it is set for another 100k.

Just the sort of fucking hypocrisy we expect from this alt-right conjob, pissing and moaning about offshoring all day long.

What silence? Does Political chat have a notification system ?
Such conclusion! - The existence of a foreign "super car" within a family means one supports the wholesale sell out of the industrial heartland; means one supports the political class leading and cheering the destruction of the industrial space.

Geeze!!

Indeed. It is a Camry, not a Lamborghini Countach or a Porsche 911 Turbo, though the Camry of that era (particularly with the 4 cylinder) is nearly unbreakable.

Years ago, a friend had one with 230k on the clock and was finally tired of it. He decided to drive it from that point without oil changes, filters or any other maintenance whatsoever until it finally died. It went another 50k and he gave up and donated it.

American carmakers would never produce cars that would duplicate that. There are a few exceptions for that but they are the exception rather than the rule.

True dat. A few years back, I went to Jordan as a side trip from Israel where my son worked at the embassy. At Wadi Rum (reputedly best desert scenery on earth), our guide had an old beater Toyota HiLux pickup outfitted with benches and shade top over the bed. The thing had no radiator cap and no air filter on the carburetor, yet still ran tours out onto the desert every day. Unfuckingbelievable.

If you build a car to last 200K miles it's a lot of work to convince customers to buy a new one when the old one only has 50K to 75K miles on the clock.
