Pay is down a bit.

"Real average hourly earnings increased 0.2 percent, seasonally adjusted, from May 2022 to May 2023. The change in real average hourly earnings combined with a decrease of 0.9 percent in the average workweek resulted in a 0.7-percent decrease in real average weekly earnings over this period." --BLS May 2023

It's not a new trend, of course. What you need now is polling data or something to confirm or deny your hypothesis that this affects people's attitudes in the directions suggested in this thread.

It goes for everything, most prominently, it goes for healthcare. We want it, but we don't want to pay for it. We want the boss to pay for it, and for most ignorant entitled Americans if we want universal Medicare for everybody, we don't want our income tax bill to increase to get it. Of course Americans are pretty fucking stupid about this...you can show them eight ways from Sunday how we are paying twice as much as we could for our healthcare than we have to. All we have to do is pay for it through income tax and the government will take care of it. But we're stupid motherfuckers for whom nothing fucking matters but our income tax bill. We're too stupid to realize that we would have more income if the boss didn't have to pay for our health insurance...and that it would be more money in our paycheck than the increase in our tax bill.

But we are the dumbest poor bastards of all the first world countries, so half of us vote for Republicans and the other half of us diddle shit around deciding that in this current cultural war, our only choice is to vote for the Democrat for every political office, and if we are unhappy that the candidate doesn't sound like AOC, we just need to shut the fuck up and for for that candidate anyway.

Jesus fucking christ on a pogo stick.
You must have a huge f'n ego. Speak for yourself!

As one now who could be called "living on a fixed income" and seeing the increases in prices. See the changes on the way our country's overall recent history of the loss of regulations protections and privatizing the very safeguard afforded in the past to the citizens.

Then add the new expenses seen as normal. Cell phone bill, streaming media, retirement saving 401K's ..... Increases in insurance due to claim increases.

Centralizing the supply chain, elimination of local in favor of on time delivery. The use of six sigma and the greed and it has seemed to spawn.

... and the GOP (GQP) is doing everything they can, every chance they get, to blame the Democrats and Biden for everything that negatively affects the pocketbook facts be damned.
