And if they could, being able to report these people when needed would cause a failure of the background check so they would walk out empty handed.
BTW I would take my M1 any day over my AR when the SHTF.

A iron-sighted, higher recoil, clumsy loading ten-pound rifle with an 8 round clip (and an audible "ping" when you need to stop to reload) with a normal 100 round load-out vs. an optically-sighted, low recoil 7 pound rifle (that is a foot shorter than a Garand) with removable 30 round magazines and a 210 round load-out?
The armorers of the US Army have disagreed with your assessment for nearly 60 years. I understand your nostalgia for a Garand, but the M4 or M16 are far better battle implements.

No mention of your misinformation about Walmart eh
I don't disagree with that but it also comes down to what your comfortable with. If I had to choose it would be an M1A1, I used M14's in the Navy until 2003.
Almost bought a new M1A1 at a gun show a couple weeks ago.

Wonder how many times your audible ping gave away a unit's position? Pretty sure the answer is zero, fire fights being notoriously noisy.
BTW the Army and USMC did not want to go from the 308 caliber M14, the Garand's replacement, to the 223 caliber M16 which became infamous for its predilection to jam.

A quality AR15 bought at Walmart (or from any of the ~50,000 FFL's in this country) is most assuredly a better infantryman's weapon than a Garand for all the reasons I stated in my post above. Your nostalgia may say otherwise, but facts don't.
Also, the M14 (upon which your M1A1 is based) did not enter service until 13 years after Iwo Jima (and ~20 years after the Garand did) and is unquestionably a better weapon than the Garand to which I originally referred. It is still in limited service today (unlike the Garand).
I'll stick with my original assertion. A quality AR-15 is a better infantry weapon than the Garand that the Marine rifleman brought ashore at Iwo Jima.

The AR15 was not available during WWII. How could it be better if it didn't exist?

I never said the AR15 existed then. Brush up on your reading comprehension before trying another cheap, petulant gotcha, cowboy.

Very well expressed Steve and totally encapsulates our current problem with guns. There really is no way out, it's really a sad state of our affairs yet we continue to talk about our gun problem without actually doing anything about it. EOS.

Never said you did. Why bring up Iwo since it's not germane? You're comparing apples to oranges.
Don't own the requisite boots or hat, Pard.

That isn't even a thing, maybe in Alaska still, since 2015. That was my point about misinformation, people that do not know will latch on to it. Someone that types trying to sound like they know what they are talking about should know better.

I was emphasizing that the AR15 is a highly-refined, modern-day weapon of war and not analogous to a tackily tricked-out Ruger 10/22.
