Well said, Don. I'm always impressed by your rationality, and do think you may be more intelligent than I am. Seriously.

Now, regarding 'prayers', I suspect you may be co-opting a 'point-of-view' that you don't actually believe in. Not that I'm offended or anything.

It's just I'm more of a Calvinist when it comes to prayers of petition. I doubt we can 'out pray' the conservative right, if in fact they actually support an insurrection against the government.

I don't think God is a democratic voting machine. Like the outcome of a football game is going to be influenced by prayers.

Just my thoughts.

You'all must be having a different experience then around these parts. Been told I needed to move to a "blue state" by so called friends. Over heard at a wedding, talk of the payback coming.
Seen the hate and vitriol over masks and vaccines in person. Just today was at the hospital getting shots in the back. A guy was PO because just found out he had C-19 and has to wait for the infusion. Sent him home with a appointment. Heard them talking to his daughter about his brother dying of C-19 last week.

I asked if they were vaccinated?

NOPE! Said their doctor told not to because of heart bleeding..... Said they were taking the antifungal med, Ivermectin.......

So just how are you going to get through to them?

Glad I was twenty feet away outside wearing a mask.

There a many who are relishing a fight against the rest of us. Want it to happen live for the day.

Hope it is not so in your areas. Around here we have plenty of crazies with guns.

On January 6th, while the insurrection was happening, I made the decision to resume drinking alcohol after abstaining for over 9 years. I was banned from Audiokarma after having drank a fifteen pack of Bluemoon beer, and telling some guy to get his butt over to my house and kill me.

I started hanging out at my local bar, too. The 'kill me now' ideation would take over after I drank enough beer (or whiskey). So, I told everybody that I didn't vote for Trump. I figured I was 'all in', ready to die.

About two weeks later, this huge dude came in the front door of the bar, and he looked like he was extremely drunk, and looking for somebody specific to fight.

I was well acquainted with the guy, had known him about 15 years, but hadn't seen him lately. We started talking about what we had been doing since the last time we saw each other. He remembered me, too. We talked for almost 10 minutes.

All a sudden he looked at the bar tender and yelled, "IS THIS THE ONE THAT DIDN'T VOTE FOR TRUMP"? ! No kidding. Apparently, she had been texting him and working him up to come kick my ass.

I stood up to the guy, and started yelling back. I explained how the electoral college worked, how my vote for Biden had been thrown out. I yelled, "YOU KNOW WHAT MAKES AMERICA GREAT. THE FACT WE GET TO VOTE FOR WHO THE F___ WE WANT".

Then I went to take a leak, figured he'd jump me while I was doing my business. He would have flatten me, too, twice as big as me. As it turned out, I had a friend in the bar. He had voted for Trump, likes Trump, but he convinced the guy to leave while I was in the bathroom.

I did get a beat down from another guy, on a different night. I don't remember what I said to provoke his aggression. Kept going back to the bar for nine months, expecting trouble. I quit drinking back in September.

The yahoos with a head of steam are dangerous on an individual level, but have to be led to ever do anything significant. Riots can be grass roots, but they come and go and not much changes. Insurrections require organization. If we are to stop what's happening, we need to quash the organizers.

IMHO, their communications are being tracked, the encrypted ones are analyzed based on patterns. They'll find out 'who's large and in charge' when the time comes.

The current responses up to the now are not working. If the insurgents were different in appearances, religion or ideologies little doubt the iron fist would be the response. If we had any other group arming and calling for a new government or over turning. You think the response would not be so?

I have tried to reason with close friends and family. Gave up trying to understand them. Failing to even get a civil conversation after the election let alone the 6th's events.

Liken it to arguing with a drunk or a six year old.....

So now have no contact unless initiated by them. Quit calling them figuring my phone receives calls too!

No fights here just watching my step. Yesterday at the hospital I have had it at this point. After being there and seeing all the people sick. Wanting to be anywhere but there. Yet needed to get the shots for pain in my back. Been waiting weeks and went. Could not get out fast enough.

The waiting was full of people with the green tanks and hoses to the nose....

Have reached the point where zero symphony towards those who IMHO have prolonged the suffering. Wish them well just hope they wake up! Do not see it happening. If not by now will never be my guess.

See little will change their minds on what is going on in this country. They are so sure of the narrative that when shown a different one laugh it off as fake news. Believing an anonymous post on web or propaganda put forth by news outlets. Choosing to believe only what furthers their already closely held views.

BigE it's not stereotyping. Those things are a result of their programming. Watch the Faux big three (Hannity/Ingram/Carlson) a few nights. Watch Faux & Friends. Propaganda presented in a nice shiny package. To the cult faithful these are the only true sources of "news". They take the bile spread by these sources as gospel. The PB's haven't been doing any religious preaching, sedition however is another story.

Those who are spoiling for, I wouldn't say an actual civil war but not ruling out, a violent action to take control of a situation they see as robing them of their way of life they believe their cause is just and holy. They've been spoon fed the idea by the GOP that them "lib Dems" are destroying America. You can't be against God or country, right?

These slap-on-the-wrist sentences being handed out against the Jan. 6th insurrectionists aren't much of a deterrent or a punishment. Many of them still maintain that they did nothing wrong. If one views what the did wasn't wrong and the punishment for it isn't a deterrent what's to stop them from doing it again?
