An across the board world wide total quarantine for a couple of months, may not of guaranteed a quick end. Just would of been the IMO best effective approach.
Pain caused then being also spread across the world to every one.
By eliminating the fuel the virus feeds on (humans) would starve it out of existence. If imposed for long enough.
