What's with the demonstrations?
Maybe I'm just getting old. I'm having a hard time understanding the point of many of the demonstrations at this point, especially in Seattle and Portland. Yes, have some demonstrations, but weeks of them on end don't seem to serve any real purpose other than to tick off lots of people. Seems like they are doing more harm than good in whatever they are endeavoring to change given the violence and destruction that have been occurring. What was the point of holding a few blocks hostage for a month or so? Of burning the police station? Of throwing rocks and bricks and other hard projectiles at officers? Of attacking a federal building and trying to set it on fire? Of wanting to defund the police?
Yes, the response on the federal side is out of control too, it seems. Storm trooper types wearing military gear as if they were going into battle. Unmarked uniforms and unmarked cars. Evidently at least some of them are indeed paid mercenaries working outside of normal government channels.
The BLM demonstrations in the cities made their point many weeks ago and at this point just seem to be playing into the hands of those who want to point out the violent side of them. In Seattle and Portland, there doesn't seem to be a point other than to continue them for the sake of doing so.
There are lots of peaceful demonstrations, but who is it that is fomenting violence from the left? What does it prove? What is the point?
And, yes, why aren't more Democrat politicians condemning the violence portion of the demonstrations. Not doing so plays into the hands of Republicans and right-wingers.
If I was Biden, I would have a "Sister Soulja" moment as Bill Clinton did as regards the overly violent lyrics of some rap songs back then. Biden could show that he is a centrist by, yes, condemning the violence portion of the demonstrations while separating them from the goals of the peaceful demonstrations. His silence in that regard my hurt him in the long run.
The media just seems to cover it on the surface, just hitting the high points. Maybe I just haven't delved deep enough to find the answers to my questions.
Anyway, just a thought or two.
