Here’s where I went wrong: I never imagined that a president would use unconfirmed puppets like acting DHS secretary Chad Wolf and his deputy, Ken Cuccinelli, to terrorize our own citizens in our own country. Our goal then had been to protect our own people, not hurt them, not harm them, not hunt them down on the streets of Portland or any other city. There was no protection built into this bill to stop a power-hungry president from misusing a powerful federal police force, hidden in disparate agencies, controlled by one agency head — the thought never even occurred to me.

I also never imagined a president appointing a lobbyist who was not even confirmed by the U.S. Senate to head such a department. I never imagined a president cruel enough to initiate a child separation policy and put helpless children behind wire while their crying parents had no power to fight for their children.

There are a lot of bad things that the Executive Branch of the US government could do that "never occurred" to the Legislative branch. Those gaps need to be closed.

Trumps coddled upbringing is misleading him into trying to force the issue without having popular support.

Seattle Police said on Twitter they were working to secure access for the city’s fire department to the blaze, which it said was started by about a dozen people who were part of a large group of demonstrators.

U.S. authorities say 18 Portland protesters face federal charges

Billy Williams, the Portland United States Attorney, said that five people were charged for allegedly committing crimes including assaulting a federal officer, trespassing and creating a disturbance during protests on the night of July 20-21.

Prosecutors said that seven people have been charged in connection with criminal conduct during a July 21-22 night protest. Another six were charged for their alleged actions in protests during the night of July 22-23.

Wouldn't that be the job of the State Police and if necessary the National Guard? Protecting protect federal property is a thinly disguised excuse for "Law & Order" Donny. Think not? What federal property is he intent on "protecting" in the Democrat led cities he's threatening to send his storm troopers into? EVERYTHING he does is to bolster his reelection hopes.

Normally yes but since the protests and riots began, the governors of their respective states have refused to do so. Case in point: CHAZ/CHOP should have invoked a national guard response in Washington but didn't until after people were dying.

National Guard should also be called by the governor(s) which failed to do so. The federal government is left with only two choices: federal law enforcement agents or nationalize the national guard in their respective states. The latter is obviously excessive when there's only one building they need to protect so they did the former. The agents sent were broadly attached to Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security, not Department of Defense.

Almost all cities are "Democrat led." Additionally, virtually all of the protesting and lawlessness are in cities. None of this stuff is happening in rural and when it does, it's civil. There's no conflict
