Reminds me of all those videos of people stealing Trump signs. But in both cases it is really just a case here and there - out of a population of 330,000,000 people.

But it is fun for the pundits on both sides to call out the other.

The NYPD’s Shake Shack Saga Was an Even Bigger Fraud Than We Realized
The police conspiracy theory quickly fell apart last week, and now the New York Post has debunked it even further.

What disturbs me most about things like that is not necessarily who it's happening to but that it's happening at all.

If sedation is legal, why can't they use sodium pentothal to extract critical information ?

The 'truth serum' works, at least some of the time, I've experienced it myself.

Granted, it would be a violation of the fifth amendment, and the information couldn't be used in court, but it could save lives.

There was a local situation in which a guy shot and killed his girlfriend, then abducted her 3 year old daughter. They caught the guy right away, but the toddler wasn't with him. He wouldn't say anything about the little one.

Seems like they could have used sodium pentothal, if it had been available. They probably could have found the child right away. He had already killed the girl before he was arrested, but she wasn't found until many weeks later.

That is a really good point.

Especially if there are no medical risks and the results save lives.

Boy I can see how the courts would ruin it.

The 5th amendment forbids it for all practical purposes. A constitutional exception to it would have to be written in, and I doubt anyone wants to poke that bear any more than dealing with the 2nd amendment's fundamental problem with blanket entitlement without exception.

Well no.

There is no federal law regarding the administration of sedatives by law enforcement, as far as I know. Truth serum could be used the same way, not part of a court case.

Testimony extracted couldn't be used in court, but they navigate around that everyday. Bring the bad guy down some other way, once you knew who he was.
