What is becoming more apparent to me is that interference was driven more by the desire for the ease of transfer of Russian wealth to western countries than by geopolitics.

Getting rid of the Magnitsky Act and other economic sanctions against the oligarchs was indeed high on Putin's priority list and he knew that Trump and Co. would be the most helpful in achieving this end. It was, after all, topic #1 at the infamous Trump Tower meeting as well as in the Flynn/Kislyak conversation.

The dossier is fake period. Politico is trying hard to make the document substantive by placing it within the context of Trumps connections with the Russians. Politico is simply stretching. It does not want to give up a salacious dossier even if all respectable organs give the document a big thumbs down.
