OK, and your point is? How much time have you spent in today's Charlottesville? It's come along a bit in the past 250 years.

I agree with your sentiment.
Speaking of CW battlefields, I saw the Centennial reenactment of the Battle of Antietam.

The anonymous soldier statues were, by and large, erected very soon after the Civil War to honor the memory of the dead, not their (lost) cause. It's OK in Germany to have memorials to its war dead (and such memorials commemorate both war victims and soldiers (also generally viewed as victims of Nazi ideology)). What's not OK is to have memorials to Hitler or Nazi ideology.
Regardless, what you think is appropriate in Charlottesville is irrelevant if you don't live in Charlottesville. Their City Council chose their course of action through a democratic process. If your town wants to keep a Nathan Bedford Forrest (the KKK founder) in the town square, fine (as Tennessee does in its state capitol in Nashville). If Charlottesville wants to remove one of RE Lee, also fine. It's none of your business.

Not quite true. They removed one at the circle in Reidsville that was simply an unknown soldier. Actually , a black guy knocked it down with a big truck and they chose not to replace it. Nobody went out and strung up the black guy or anything.

I made my point and what does the amount of time I've spent in Charlottesville have to do with what just happened there?

Just as your point about Jefferson's personal shortcomings has nothing to do with what happened there this weekend. Enough of your "planters" already.

I've spent a lot more time than I want, will be glad when they get it bypassed like Lynchburg.

Lynchburg deserves to be bypassed. Charlottesville? Not hardly. Plus I-64 blows right by town (east to west, anyway).

King wasn't a traitor like Lee.

Go ahead and convince some Far Right politician to put forth such a measure. It would be one less knuckle-dragger on the political scene.

We all have shortcomings and you seem to be abnormally focused on on our current president's.
They're not my planters and one of the roots of our current divide remains the problems created by slavery, you know, planters. IIRC you have an ancestor that was a BG in the CSA.
