Trump rebukes Repubs over bid to gut Ethics Office.

A sign of things to come: Trump rebukes Repubs.

I think what Trump might be missing is that with the Dems losing control in Congress and the White House, they'll be throwing all the BS they can find at the wall to see if they can make any of it stick. Their best buds in the mainstream press would gleefully report on all of it - flooding the zone with BS - and trying to knock the Repubs off their game. Giving the Dems one less hunk of BS to sling - by modifying the ethics process - is probably a good thing in the long run.

A good thing for the country?

It is time to stop viewing issues strictly through party optics.

That is not likely to happen.

And that's exactly the reason that the GOP wanted to have absolute control over future ethics investigations - to bury those directed at the GOP while emphasizing those directed at Democrats. Any dumb fool should be able to recognize that.

You lock Hillary up for her bullshit and I will take you seriously about your ethics concerns.

Its really not about viewing issues strictly through party optics. Its about dealing with political reality. The Dems have already signaled their intent to use every and any means they can to try to derail Trump. I think they've already started.

The political reality is this: if I think my opponent is going to hit me over the head with a hammer for any reason they see fit, I'm not going to go out of my way to leave any hammers lying about.

Actually, they've said they'll work with Trump on areas where there's common ground, unlike what McConnell said and did after Obama was elected.
