You're getting mixed-up. The 'firing squad' was the meeting with TV people from multiple networks on Mon. The NY Times meeting was with NY Times people, on tue.

You're mixed up. The "firing squad" was the Trump camp's characterization of the broadcast media meeting in which the participants agreed to meet off the record (and thereby allowed Trump to characterize the meeting as he wished).

The NYTimes wouldn't agree to a strictly off the record meeting, knowing that Trump would mischaracterize what happened, and insisited upon an on the record interview after a brief meet & greet with the Times publisher. The Times, unlike the broadcast media, did the right thing and didn't allow themselves to be played by Trump. Good for them.

I feel better now knowing that he did give the MSM an ass chewing. They deserved that and more.
