Arkansas and North Dakota?
I'll bet they see a lot of combat there.

And that somehow makes you an authority on the Air Force? I personally managed the construction of 5 Air Force nuclear missile sites in Germany. I'd say I've had far more interactions/experience with the Army and Air Force than you could even begin to imagine.
FWIW, my father was a medic in New Guinea in WWII, after which he got a law degree on the GI Bill and served a career as a JAG officer in the Army with assignments in Japan, Germany, Texas and DC.

He never talked at all about any of the gruesome stuff. He did talk, however, about how after we won, Japanese survivors would sneak out of the jungle at night and steal food from the mess hall kitchens. I still have some pictures of him in uniform with a couple of buddies and their Betty Grable posters in the background as well as some V-Mail letters to my mom who he started dating before the War and married immediately afterwards.
Funny story - My dad was working days at Georgetown Prep while taking some night classes at Georgetown U when Pearl Harbor was attacked. He was 30 at the time and was called in for a draft induction physical in Rockville and the doctor, noticing his age and thick glasses, told him that he wouldn't be drafted until "Hitler came goose-stepping down Rockville Pike." He was drafted 3-4 months later, trained up, and sent off to New Guinea for the duration of the war.

Pops went down the Navy recruiting office here in Los Angeles only to discover he was color blind. He ended up in the 10th Armored Division, 3rd Army, Metz-Ardennes-Rhineland. He ended the war in Garmisch-Partenkirchen skiing the Zugspitzplatt.
