Commentary: Trump's history of corruption is mind-boggling. So why is Clinton supposedly the corrupt one? - http://www.sltrib.com/home/4317605-1...-corruption-is

^^^ This is an important commentary on how image narratives shape news, rather than being shaped by it.

Quote:
we may have reached a point where the frames around the candidates are locked in: Trump is supposedly the crazy/bigoted one, and Clinton is supposedly the corrupt one. Once we decide that those are the appropriate lenses through which the two candidates are to be viewed, it shapes the decisions the media make every day about which stories are important to pursue.
The result of those decisions? Big reporting resources are available to play the 'corruption angle' on Hillary, but not on Trump. Lots of Trump apparent corruption cases, such as the Trump Foundation's illegal campaign contribution to Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, would be big continuing stories investigated by large teams of reporters, except the principle is Trump, not Hillary, so they are small stories that get no follow-up.

From the article:
Quote:
For instance, there was only one mention of this story [Bondi contribution] on any of the five Sunday shows, when John Dickerson asked Chris Christie about it on " Face the Nation" (Christie took great umbrage: "I can't believe, John, that anyone would insult Pam Bondi that way"). And the comparison with stories about Hillary Clinton's emails or the Clinton Foundation is extremely instructive. Whenever we get some new development in any of those Clinton stories, you see blanket coverage - every cable network, every network news program, every newspaper investigates it at length. And even when the new information serves to exonerate Clinton rather than implicate her in wrongdoing, the coverage still emphasizes that the whole thing just "raises questions" about her integrity.
Image/media feedback loop in action. Since it 'fits the image,' just imagine the coverage that a Clinton Foundation campaign contribution like this would get.

How could such blatant sexist and illegal behavior stayed under the radar for so long?

Talk about 'pay anything just make this go away.' Except it won't.

In other news, Greta Van Susteren has quit, effective right goddamn now.

With the 'fuck to play' reputation the place has now, I'm surprised ANY of the female on-airs are willing to stay.

Don - the more I read your posts, the more you remind me of this:

You want your memes and talk tracks, and whether or not they reflect reality is not terribly relevant.

You connect Van Susteren's departure with allegations of harassment. No evidence or claims that she was the target of harassment, but don't let that stop you. As far as other "female on-airs" at Fox, a number of them came forward and expressed support for Ailes, including Van Susteren.

Bottom line - we'll never likely know the truth here. Whether or not Carlson's allegations were legit, or if they were more of a retaliatory move due to a reduction in Carlson's on-air time, or if Ailes did make a pass at her we'll probably never know.

But don't let that stop you, Don.

I call that a BS. Wait till all the lawsuits are settled and then post a more appropriate response.
