DNC Convention Costs Leaving Young And Poor Delegates Out In The Cold

Some of these Bernie kids that ran for delegate are getting a rude awakening. The convention is an exclusive party for elite insiders.

Quote:
The exorbitant costs of attending the Democratic Convention in Philadelphia on July 25-28 this year, is threatening to leave some delegates out in the cold.

The DNC strongly requires delegates to stay at an appointed hotel, and costs for a room start at $569 per night, plus tax and fees, with the hotel requiring a five night minimum, putting base costs for attending the convention in the thousands, effectively shutting out anyone below a certain income bracket.
Quote:
There were other surprise costs buried in the literature packets distributed to delegates including a “Breakfast and Bash” ticket for $200, which is not technically required, but it’s where the delegate credentials will be handed out. In a further blow to the pocket, all costs must be booked by June 30, a month before the convention, and paid in full by July 17.

“Some are getting nearby cheaper places to stay, which puts them at great risk of not getting past security or receiving their credentials, however they have no other choice as many have just been notified of their delegate status and do not have enough time to fundraise,” Natalie Higley, a California delegate and mother-of-one explained.
Quote:
The jaw-dropping costs have affected both Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton delegates, but it seems to be affecting Bernie Sanders delegates more due to his platform attracting younger people, and people in precarious financial situations due to ill health, career status, or earning below living standard wages.

Sure. All anyone has to do is go to their local library and pick up a copy of "Attend the Convention on $5 a day"

Young, low-income delegates feeling the squeeze of DNC in Philly

This shit is all over the net Bob. Everytime you attack the source, I'll put up another one. Let's see who blinks first.

DNC officials say the event from July 25-28 will deliver an estimated economic impact of $250-300 million to the Greater Philadelphia Area, yet those who will be instrumental in the proceedings are faced with sky-high hotel bills and fees for associated events.

Delegates pledged to both Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders told Vice News that the per-person cost of the four-day trip to Philadelphia will cost anywhere from $3,000 to $8,000, a price tag that may constrain those who are younger or come from a low-income background.

"When we ran for delegate positions we knew it was going to be a little pricey, but none of us knew how expensive it is," said Andrew Niquette, a 19-year-old chef and Bernie Sanders delegate from Georgia. His estimated bill is $8,000, including $1,000 per night in hotel expenses.

St. Birdie has $9 million in his back pocket. Surely, he can foot the bill.

Maybe he will find a way to help. He's a good guy.

This won't affect the Clinton delegates.

Most of them are multi-millionaires.

For the handful that are not, there are plenty of wealthy Clinton donors that will sponsor them.

I don't do crowds.

I would probably pay anywhere from $200 to $500 to get out of having to go to something like that.

So how much do you think it costs for a delegate to attend a convention?

Or do you think it's like your conferences from work?

An on the job vacation on the taxpayers dime?
