Yes I do.
The two current parties exist because they are the traditional structure in American politics. They won't get displaced until, well, they are displaced by the simple existence of masses (i.e. millions) of people wanting something as bad enough as the current Democrats and Republicans do. If there were a huge, huge mass of "Independent Voters" who demanded a voice and more power they would simply make a party like the ones that exist now and establish primary rules.
Or take one over. You can see that with what has happened to the GOP. A new party born in the 1850s dedicated to preservation of the Union and a national economy, which the extension of slavery into new states would have hurt.
A new New Independent Party today would have to coalesce around a similar sort of national outlook on important issues. It has not happened yet.
I am retired military cold war liberal John, not some wonky leftest collectivist fellow traveler sort lol .

"Alsup said. "Citizens of California are smart enough to know what their rights are. I'm giving my order now so you can get your writ to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and then the United States Supreme Court, then the International Court of the Hague. But you're done in federal court.""

I may be mistaken but, As I recall, when there was such a thing as a Cold War, you were a Reagan Republican.

I had a favorite aunt and uncle who were proud Reagan democrats, much to their consternation I forgave 'em.

It'll be interesting to see how many voters have been mysteriously cut from the rolls in California come election day. The two parties have gotten good at preventing folks from voting with their myriad of little rules and purges......
Kansas purged about 30,000 at last count, take that by all the states and an election could easily be manipulated to a certain outcome.....
It's almost as if the ruling parties don't want people to vote.....
The two parties have made voting a "gotcha" game. 'merican democracy at it's finiest. Small wonder our attempts at democracy building around the world fail so miserable, we don't have a clue what democracy is.

It occurs to me that republicans seem to view black, Mexican, LGBT, Muslims and poor people in the same light as Nazi Germans once viewed Jewish people. We must be vigilant that it goes no further.

They don't need to as people don't vote in very large numbers anyway.
