Partisan restrictions on primaries are just schemes by the established parties to pick their voters. Like gerrymandering, it is undemocratic. Party identity is not stamped on anyone's DNA. One person, one vote, wherever they choose to place it.

There's nothing that says that a political party must use a democratic process to pick its nominee. Never has been, never will be.

If you mean the things done are legal as the law stands, that is true.

If you mean it suits you whatever, that's up to you. Doesn't suit me. Power to the people!

God gave man brains that put wings on airplanes.

God was forward thinking. 😉

A republic such as ours is deliberately designed such that it doesn't slavishly follow the latest trends or whims of the people. For example, we have 2 senators per state, whether that state is California or Wyoming and we elect a President by an electoral college.

If a political party chooses up front to allow for a simple majority to pick its candidate, cool. If not, also cool.

Who controls the voting process, state and local governments or individual parties? Let each party hold it's own nominating convention in every county and state and leave the government out of the primary election business.

America has always been a two-party nation, even though the parties themselves have come and gone since the latter 18th century. If you are not a member of either main party then you are at a disadvantage. That is the de-facto way our democracy works.

If picking the leader of a political party involves voting and that voting process is intentionally undemocratic, then the whole exercise is a sham, a waste of public funds and time.

It is just noise...a feel good noise about US Democracy.
