So... you don't think politicians are selling myths that some find hard to believe and accept?

A concept, a philosophy or a school of thought. You may find it hard to accept but it's not a myth. It's real, people experience and live in it every day.

Any concept or philosophy or school of thought that is false, is a myth. Politicians spout myths all the time.

I don't think I do, but just this once, I'll look it up for you, since you seem to need help.

Your dictionary misses a lot. The most important thing about myths is they create identity and meaning. As such, they are all at least quasi-religious.

My dictionary recognizes two definitions. You recognize one. So that means my dictionary is missing a lot?

Politicians are selling snake oil, so not to be trusted. Bush & Neocons selling the Iraq war for instance disastrous results.

A myth on the other hand cannot be verified yet people believe in them, for example the Islamic Jihad.

"Saddam has WMDs". Could not be verified, yet many people believed it.
"Cost of your health insurance will not go up". Could not be verified, yet many people believed in it.
"I did not have sex with that woman". Could not be verified, yet many people believed in it.
"I will build a big beautiful wall". Can not be verified, yet many people believe in it. This one's not yet a myth, but well on it's way.

Largely debunked by the testimony of high ranking defectors from Saddam's regime, the UNSCOM inspection team and by the fact that we never found any once we had the opportunity to look for ourselves.

From your perspective, a lie. Really, though, it's an unkept promise but it's not a myth.

A lie by most interpretations but not a myth.

Another promise, and a boastful one, of something to be done in the future so, it has the opportunity of being a broken promise or, though very unlikely, a promise kept but not a myth.
