I ma not a Trump supporter but this is particularly brilliant: he gains nothing by risking additional debate exposure and Kelly is an exceedingly convenient excuse to avoid it.

In addition, he'll achieve enhanced publicity -- without saying a word -- by ditching than by showing up. Any opponent who mentions his absence just offers more free airplay.

It's a damn good strategy on his campaign's part. Avoids getting skewered in the debate either by Kelley or other participants since the gloves are off. Chances are very good that the viewership will fall and Trump gets to gloat again. If he is really successful in holding a rally to benefit veterans bereft of any details, he will still be considered a hero by his supporters. From now on out, he will be constantly accusing Fox of not playing fair and that will resound well. Every which way I look, trump stands to gain from this boycott.
