Areas you describe are the typical tourist traps. IMO Tahoe is still pristine and unspoiled outside of South Lake Tahoe city and the few 'Casino' towns around the lake. Unfortunately the lake levels have been receding over the past few years and the snow instead of accumulating is melting away.

I understand. I lived there in late 80s. I am probably not the best judge.

More and more I'm thinking it would be somewhere that has no grass or trees. I am beginning to HATE yard work.
