And I did miss it but the thrust of the thread is still a dispute over how much violence was appropriate rather than whether it was appropriate at all.
Of course, once a LEO was called, violence was inevitable. I guess the girl should be grateful she wasn't shot.
Or murdered in her cell.

As a teacher, all I would ask is that the kids turn their phones off and put them away. From what I have seen, this is what she did. I think the teacher made a problem where there wasn't one.

Sheriff Lott and I agree with you.

Given such, the amount of force is not only warranted it's mandated. Win. Fast.

That's just ridiculous on multiple levels. It's not your kid, it's not your home and your job in this case is not to be a parent.

Then blame the teacher. But once you call in The Man, you've set forces in motion that can only end in one manner. The student chooses how that goes down.

According to what I have read she was handcuffed and arrested which to me is a ridiculous reaction to using a cell phone in class.
I wonder if they do that at that fancy expensive prep school that George W. Bush went to?

In a school situation, that's exactly what the job is.
That's why even calling the Resource Officer to deal with the situation was dereliction of that responsibility. Discipline is not what they're there for. Safety is what they're there for.
And again, Sheriff Lott agrees.
Good old Zeke! "Hulk smash!"

BULLSHIT.
Once you've determined there's going to be an arrest? Doesn't matter.
But, since 1969, it hasn't mattered anyway once determination has been made that "conduct by the student, in class or out of it, which for any reason - whether it stems from time, place, or type of behavior - materially disrupts classwork or involves substantial disorder or invasion of the rights of others."
Sum?
You possess no argument.
The issue here is the student.

You know I never remember seeing a cop at my Junior High or High School.
It was always handled by the faculty.
And we had some pretty bad assed kids even back in the day.
There where fights fairly often. We had a number of those Fonzi type greaser rednecks that would start a fight if you brushed their shoulder in the hallway or they didn't like the way you looked at them. That was mostly in junior high. Most of the worst kids had either dropped out or were in jail before they got to High School. We had kids flush cherry bombs down the toilets. Another one brought some tools to school and stole a bunch of the plumbing fixtures out of the bathrooms. We had several kids sent up to Marianna, which was where the state reform school was. One of them for pushing the History teacher down a flight of stairs. Just about every boy had a pocket knife of some kind. And of course there was the usual smoking in the boys room. That was not allowed, but there was a designated smoking area out under a big oak tree at the back of the PE field.
We had corporal punishment in Junior high were the assistant principal would swat you on the ass with a paddle. It was referred to as "getting licks". That got to be a badge of honor among the bad kids. The one who had gotten the most licks during the year got bragging rights.

Jesus! The Tinker decision doesn't have anything to do with cops arresting a pouty little kid. It's a freedom of speech issue. It's a civil issue and has nothing to do with law enforcement.
The rest of your quote is: .... is, of course, not immunized by the constitutional guarantee of freedom of speech.
And it's worth noting that in Tinker the SCOTUS found for the plaintiffs against the school board.
Try again.

Yeah...... Back in the day...... Pranks and blowing off steam.
Now it's bombs and guns shooting as many people as they can before they put the bullet in their own head.
The times they are a' changing.
