Now, who can think of a way to remove a defiant student who is clamped onto a desk, without risking major injury, assuming there's a proper need to do so? The main problem is breaking a grip on desk parts without risking breaking fingers or something. My idea: from behind, lightly place a hand over the student's face. The instinct is to instantly grab at such a hand. So the death-grip-on-the-desk bit is over, and student's hands can be grabbed and cuffed.

As I understand it she had already put the phone away, which was the disturbing element. So the way I see it the teacher should have just chilled out and resumed teaching.

Wishful untrained thinking.

Step One is avoid teeth: never touch the face unless striking.

As I see it, the bank had already been robbed so the teller should have just gone back to work?

Screw this kid. Take her down and out.

Problem solved.

Of course and the officer got fired for solving the problem. Was it worth it?

I don't get why the teach and asst. principal didn't just pick up the desk and student and put 'em out in the hallway when she refused to give up her phone.
Yeh, I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed.

Mmmmmm....... Might have been a solution that would have avoided this mess.

I believe there are rules which govern such a situation.

That is why the police was called.

In a school there are myriads of protocols.

I'm sure your are right about that.

Just seems like sometimes simple logic should take precedence.

Chief Lott said he felt the Resource Officer should not have been called.
