Hopefully this will help with your difficulty in understanding my opposition to concealed carry, open carry, or any other sort of carry of handguns in this country.
I don't carry as much as I once did, I'd rather not have to use it at all. Nonetheless, I stay armed against home invasion.
Distrust of fellow citizens is a driving factor in the real world.

That is the message, after all, isn't it?

Those folks didn't riot because they want more welfare, like we are led to believe. They rioted because they are tired of being treated differently than the rest of us in so many ways.
Who owns NBC anyway? It isn't a repub from the south is it?

Isn't Fox headquarters in NY? Honestly, I really don't live by either, but do appreciate Kelly being open on issues. Should ask her questions when she's online sometime, she'll give you an honest answer.

Agreed. An armed human invading my home is not, however, a fellow citizen - just a dangerous pest, a poisonous cockroach that has to be eliminated.

I have done all I can to make our home uninviting to intruders - I hope it never comes to it, but if it is ever them or me I will make every attempt to insure it is me left breathing.

Just to provide a little perspective...

Averaged over the last 10 years 100 Americans per year are victims of home invasion/burglary homicide. Just about the same number as are killed by lightning every year, those hit by lightning are estimated to be 5 times the number murdered in home invasions. You're way, way more likely to be hit by lightning than murdered in a home invasion. Twice as many Americans die in floods as are killed in home invasions.

Interesting article from The Nation...
http://www.thenation.com/article/we-...e-real-danger/

Quote:
The Bureau of Justice Statistics reports about 100 homicides per year across America that happen in the course of household burglaries. That’s less than 1 percent of U.S. homicides. Yeah, that’s about one-180th of the 18,735 gun suicides that occurred in America in 2009. Many people who attempt suicide can be helped—unless they have immediate access to the most efficient and lethal method of self-harm. Then of course there are gun accidents and crimes committed by legal gun owners or by others who gain access to those same guns.
And that's just suicides. Domestic violence gun homicides every year...700. Accidents...600 every year. And all the non-fatal firearms injuries? It's over 200,000 every year. Statistically, if you want to me more safe in your home, way more safe...get the guns that you keep in your home for safety out of your home.

Fellow citizen paranoia IMHO, is a poor excuse for a quarter million gun casualties in this country every year. It's fucking nuts.

Those figures indicate the number of people killed in the the course of a home invasion/burglary - FBI statistics indicate a much higher number of actual burglaries - thankfully, #s are going down.

If someone breaks into my home I will not be waiting to see if he/she intends to murder me.

The numbers I quoted are from FBI statistics.

I'm asking personal questions here, but you're how old? And you've been the victim of how many home invasions? And you've gunned down how many of these misanthropes? OK...OK...perhaps you're one of the remarkably unfortunate who has.

Myself........I try not to sit around worrying about a home invasion to the point where I have go out and buy a gun that's hundreds of times more likely to kill me than one of the horde of invaders lurking in the bushes and waiting to kick my door in and gut me with a utility knife. Maybe I would be better advised go to the doc and get a prescription for Xanax.

But that's just me, I guess.

No, I don't sit around contemplating the possibility, but it is a reality that it happens and it only takes one time to end up dead, so I prepared as much as possible as not to have to think about it very much (until the nightly news) - thorny hedges under all the windows, motion detector lights, good locks - about all I can do.

I consider the possibility as I would a house fire or natural disaster and just try to do what I can to minimize any potential harm to me and/or my wife in the event of catastrophe.

Well...everybody does what they gotta do I guess. But it seems to me that with the disgrace of our democratized gun carnage in this country staring us in the face every fucking day, that house fires, tornadoes, and avalanches are free from the consequences of human barbarity toward one another that accompanies the presence of free access to firearms in the culture which by design, ain't good for nuthin' but put a man six feet in a hole.

Hopefully the outcome of having gun/guns in your house turns out differently for you from all the statistical evidence.

Y'know...I understand the good locks...everybody oughta have good locks. But the thorny hedges and motion detectors...where do you live? Juarez?

Ha! No, I just think it's my responsibility - nothing ever happens in our neighborhood.

I have smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, a generator, an exit plan for a fire - just makes sense to me to make the house uninviting to burglars.

I like the motion lights because they illuminate the driveway when I pull in at night.

The raccoons set them off more than anything else, though.
