Consider that 10% a tithe and count your blessings Rev.
So the 10%, if it is that, is $90 a month or so. A definitely noticeable bite at the $1600 a month income level. He can squawk.

It's a little fussbudgety and small-picture to try to make a big critique of of the ACA out if it, however, I'll agree with you there....

$90 a month for a health insurance plan with good coverage for two people that I assume are not spring chickens as one of them gets a pension?

That's pretty awesome.

The 2015 standard deduction for a married couple filing jointly is $12,600.

Then two personal exemptions at $4,000 each comes to $20,600. So that's means the first $1700 a month is not taxed at all. After that the next $18,450 or about $1550 a month is taxed at 10%. That's where I get the numbers from. I know this because that's where my tax bracket is. I have $100 a month withheld from my pension and that about puts me at break even come tax time. I don't find that too onerous a tax bill and neither should he. So I don't feel sorry for him.

http://taxfoundation.org/article/2015-tax-brackets

Now, maybe his wife works, and/or he has other income.

Maybe he's in the 15, or 25 percent, or even higher tax bracket.

Well, then he can damn well afford it, so I don't feel sorry for him either.

What it's created is a medical system in which nobody is really cured of anything, they are simply "maintained" on a diets of expensive drugs and treatments that last for the rest of their lives.

This is why we'll never find a cure for cancer, treating it is so lucrative to the doctors and drug companies, they would never allow a cure.
You want lucrative? Consider the common cold. How much money do you imagine flows into the pockets of the makers of Nyquil, cough drops, Coricidin, etc.

Then imagine how much research is devoted to finding a cure or shot.

The cold is a virus there is no cure. However some of those drugs do tend to mitigate the symptoms and facilitate decongestion. My placebo cure for panic attacks in the dead of night brought on by sleep apnea is sudafed 60mg, chlor-trimeton 4mg, and Alka Seltzer.

So is the flu a virus but they have a shot for it and we have not had the flu for a number of years now.

My doc said Sudafed would clog my arteries so I don't use it.

The SCOTUS deciding to kill the Federal subsidy would be the GOP's worst nightmare. They'd have to show the willingness and ability to patch up the damage they did to Obamacare. In a perverse sort of way, a SCOTUS "victory" for their side would serve them right.
