For starters to enrich the cops, then they also exist to violate the 4th and 6th amendments. If homeowner does not have illegal drugs cops will happily provide some. Because then they get to seize the house and contents.

And as a byproduct to kill otherwise innocent civilians as has happened more than once. Cops read the address wrong. Innocent homeowner believing home is being invades by thugs picks up her gun and is shot to death.

My last post was just screwing around but now I'd like to ask you a serious question. Do you think most police do their job by the book? Or do you think at least 20% are their to live out their wild west fantasies? and another 30% or more tend to become seduced by the power they wield?

Zeke has the cop is always right book. He's even hedging on Slager. Hedging even after the police chief stated that Slager did not follow protocol when he shot an unarmed, fleeing Walter Scott in the back.

Without question, there is a percentage that become officers merely because kicking their dog bored them: but that number is significantly smaller than you might expect.

Why?

Because the hurdles required to become a POST certified, trained and full-fledged officer (including backgrounds, polygraphs and psych evals) weeds out most applicants.

The issue is that the good guys, though consistent interaction with John Q., are forced to overcome any inherent desire to assist in society by finding a way to police it. That is impossible to do without being fundamentally changed.

Mayberry doesn't exist anymore and never did.

The reality is officers control nothing but their own survival.

I wonder how many people become police because they really want to...or is it because it is one of the few jobs remaining with decent benefits and a pension. Maybe the wrong type is making it through the weeding process.


You know on COPS you used to see the police run after people for blocks and never shoot them. All this 30 something cop had to do was chase this guy a few blocks and call for back-up instead of going nuclear with his pistol.
