Please define what religious beliefs are. These are unwritten and can be anything somebody wants it to be. So if it is anti-gay, why not have the guts to spell it out. What we really need is a "Freedom from Religion" law which when invoked will trump any and every religious edict.

Bible narrative
Gospel of Matthew

Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
—Matthew 22:35-40

Gospel of Mark

In the Gospel of Mark, the Shema is included:

And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
—Mark 12:28-31

Gospel of Luke

And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.
— Luke 10:25-28

Deuteronomy and Leviticus

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
—Deuteronomy 6:4-5

Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.
—Leviticus 19:18

What part of equal rights don't you understand.

Poor put upon bigots get called out for bigotry in the marketplace and even WalMart and NASCAR actively lobby against these (allegedly Christian) hypocritical bigots.

Poor dears, bless their hearts and their pointy lil' heads.

The constitution says the free exercise of religion may not be prohibited. That also must include the free non-exercise of religion. It's logically inescapable.

There seems to be a lot overlap with the fundies of both groups even in the selective reading of the Old Testament, a religious text we Christians, Muslims and Jews share.

Absolutely.

Religion has been used to rationalize Slavery and Jim Crowe and bigotry in general for centuries.

As was slavery during our ante bellum period. The Planter churches preached that God was right with slavery.

Quote:
Matthew 5:1-1221st
And seeing the multitudes, He went up onto a mountain; and when He was set, His disciples came unto Him.

2 And He opened His mouth and taught them, saying,

3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

4 Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.

5 Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

6 Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.

7 Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.

8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.

10 Blessed are they that are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

11 Blessed are ye when men shall revile you and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely for My sake.

12 Rejoice and be exceeding glad, for great is your reward in Heaven; for so persecuted they the prophets who were before you.
